He said, though the apology was not directed to the victim, Steven Abuwatseya, but to the public and House of Reps members, however, he said, “apology is not a defence to liability for a crime one commits”.
On the apology, Hon. Ikezuagu maintained that Alex Ikwechegh will publicly apologise to Steven Abuwatseya particularly.

He continued, saying, “forgiveness by the victim has little, or no bearings on the offender’s dangerousness, and awful nature”.
He maintained that “Alex Ikwechegh must pay his debts to the society for the crime he committed by assaulting the Bolt driver by beating, if not, forgiveness and mercy threaten to undermine general deterrence – sending message that future crime may receive leniency”, he said.
Hon. Ikezuagu, while pleading Nigerians and Steven Abuwatseya to forgive Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, he maintained that forgiveness is unrelated to the wrongfulness of the crime committed by Alex Ikwechegh, saying, “Alex must pay for the harm he inflicted on the victim”, “Crime is crime” he said.
He requested for thorough investigation on the issue to bring Alex Ikwechegh to face the law. He demanded to bring Alex Ikwechegh to court.
