The Igbo Council of Elders UK (ICE) has announced that the 2026 second edition of its annual New Yam Festival – Iri Ji Ndigbo UK Festival 2026 will be an extraordinary celebration, set to surpass last year’s event held in North London.

ICE revealed that distinguished Igbo personalities from across the UK and overseas have already confirmed attendance, signalling a landmark cultural gathering for the diaspora community.

The Coordinator, Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu, who has been engaging various Igbo communities and organisations, said: “The Igbo Council of Elders UK’s 2026 New Yam Festival will be remarkable, with many prominent Igbo dignitaries committed to attending.”

Reflecting on the 2025 celebration, he added that this year’s festival is designed to be even more exceptional, with expanded participation and cultural displays.

Recently, the ICE team led by Hon. Ikezuagu visited the Nze na Ozo group headed by Nze Aaron Muora, Ichie Ezeugo.

The team expressed delight at the warm reception they received while delivering the formal invitation. Hon. Ikezuagu described the visit as “a step in the right direction, recognising revered titled men in Igbo society and involving them fully in the programme.”

Ichie Ezeugo thanked ICE for extending fellowship to Ndi Nze na Ozo and pledged their support for the festival.

ICE also confirmed that the Executive and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, led by High Chief Chima Oparaugo, welcomed the invitation with joy and committed to contributing to the success of the event. ICE expressed appreciation for Ohanaeze’s support and partnership.

The organisation further extended gratitude to the leadership of the Imo State Union, led by High Chief Vicman Ekwueme, the Old Orlu Development Union led by Chief Chima Madueke, Imo Elders, and several other groups that have pledged their commitment.

The ICE Youth Network will perform maiden dances, traditional displays, and masquerade presentations to entertain attendees.

In a special announcement, Hon. Ikezuagu expressed gratitude for the safe arrival of the Royal Father of the Day, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Mishak Nnanta, KJW (Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum), who has just landed in the United Kingdom for the event from Nigeria.

He called on Ndigbo and friends of Ndigbo across the UK to attend and celebrate a cherished cultural heritage handed down by the ancestors.
