A UK-based group called “Concerned Nigerians for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu” has said, “it is fair and just to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”, saying they will hold protest in London on the 1st November 2025 to urge the British Prime Minister, Steir Starmer to intervene, and ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released by the Nigerian government, Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper gathered.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained since 2021, has drawn both national and international calls for his release from the Nigerian government.
In a statement released by the group, they said, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in Kenya in 2021 and brought to Nigeria to face multiple charges in court. The group stated that despite multiple court orders for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, the federal government continues to detain him.
The event organiser and UK Officer, Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu, stated that the court has granted bail to Nnamdi Kanu in several cases; however, the government has not complied with the release orders, and is instead employing what has been described as “delaying tactics” to keep him in detention.
He continued, stating that Nnamdi Kanu is a British Citizen and the group will submit a petition to the British Prime Minister, Steir Starmer requesting his involvement to urge the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu.
“It is fair and just to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu” Hon. Ikezuagu said.
In 2020, during Nigeria’s “End Sars” protest, Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu held a protest in the United Kingdom urging the Nigerian government to End Sars.
In 2017, after Nigerian forces raided Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Abia State residence causing casualties and property loss, the UK Officer Hon. Ikezuagu organized a peaceful protest in the UK against the killing of Igbo people in Nigeria.
In a communique released to the UK press, Hon. Ikezuagu said, the protest will be held on Saturday 1st November 2025 in London.
He said, “everyone will gather at Trafalgar Square by 10am and proceed to number 10 Downing Street by 12noon to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer”.
The group called upon advocates, lovers of freedom, Nigerians, members of the Igbo community, various organisations, Igbo leaders and elders to participate in the protest urging the Nigerian government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Hon. Ikezuagu stated that UK police and authorities have arranged for a peaceful protest, he concluded.
