The leadership of the banned Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, led by Mr. Acho Ndukwe, has been urged to desist from withholding information from its members. This call underscores the importance of transparency and accountability. Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper gathered.
In a recent development, the President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Mbata, formally announced the dissolution of the Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK. He further directed its members to reintegrate into the main body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, under the leadership of Chief Lady Aqueen Ibeto, and to work collectively in the spirit of unity for the advancement and well-being of Ndigbo.
The leadership of the proscribed Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK led by Mr Acho Ndukwe has been told to stop concealing information from its members, Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper learnt.
Following the proscription of the Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK and a subsequent meeting held by its executive leadership, no communication has been issued to its members regarding the way forward or the process for reintegration into the main body, as directed by the apex organisation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
An Elder statesman and a revered custodian of Igbo culture, OkeNze Oguabadike, has voiced deep concern over the continued concealing of information from members of the proscribed Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK. He strongly criticised the leadership for failing to provide clear guidance on the way forward, describing the lack of transparency as a disservice to the values of accountability and unity that underpin Igbo tradition.
He noted that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide recently convened a meeting involving both parties, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to a unified Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK. At that meeting, the apex body explicitly instructed that the Men’s Wing be dissolved, and its members reintegrated into the main body to ensure cohesion and collective progress.
OkeNze Oguabadike further remarked that if the primary reason for the withdrawal from the main body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, led by Chief Lady Aqueen Ibeto was based on gender leadership, then such concerns should no longer be a barrier. He emphasised that leadership is rotational, and an election will follow Lady Ibeto’s tenure. Therefore, he questioned the continued reluctance of the former Men’s Wing to rejoin the unified body, as directed by the apex organisation.
Upon reflection, OkeNze Oguabadike affirmed that Chief Lady Aqueen Ibeto had committed no wrongdoing. His statement reinforces the call for unity and underscores the importance of setting aside personal biases for the greater good of Ndigbo.
After a deep thought, Lady Ibeto didn’t do any wrong, OkeNze said.
According to the elder statesman, he said,
“Lady Ibeto was elected to be the president. And all of you were there for four years when she was the vice president. She declared interest to go for the president, before you people pulled out to form this Ohanaeze that never produced anything tangible. Now, you have been instructed to collapse and work with main group to have election to produce a man to lead Ohanaeze since then, nothing has been heard from you people”.
OkeNze Oguabadike rhetorically questioned whether the leadership of the proscribed Men’s Wing truly found it difficult to determine the appropriate course of action. Seizing the moment, he offered a clear roadmap for reintegration, stating that their apparent indecision reflected a lack of purposeful direction. His intervention was aimed at guiding them toward compliance with the directive from Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and restoring unity within the organisation.
In conclusion, OkeNze Oguabadike asserted that there is nothing inherently difficult about dissolving the factional structure of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, as a clear roadmap has already been provided. He suggested that any lingering resistance may stem from hidden selfish agendas, rather than genuine obstacles. His remarks reinforced the call for transparency, unity, and adherence to the directive of the apex body.
After outlining a clear roadmap for reintegration, OkeNze Oguabadike emphasized that there is nothing inherently difficult in implementing the proposed steps, unless he noted pointedly, there are concealed selfish agendas at play. He reiterated that dismantling the factional structure of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK is entirely achievable, provided there is genuine commitment to unity and the collective interest of Ndigbo, he stated.
