The President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Mbata, has instructed Men’s Ohanaeze Ndigbo United Kingdom to join forces with Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK, led by Chief Lady Aqueen Ibeto, in order to promote unity and development for the benefit of Ndigbo.
The decision was made by the National Executive Committee, NEC after reviewing the mediation report on the chapter’s conflict by the Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, as instructed by the President-General Chief John Mbata, Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper learnt.
The Men’s Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK became a splinter group in 2021, breaking away from the main Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK led by Chief Lady Aqueen Ibeto after prolonged leadership disputes that left the group divided.
In a letter to the group, dated 1st October 2025, the parent organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of Chief John Mbata called for the unification of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK to foster unity and progress. The directive came ahead of the group’s general election, scheduled for 15th November 2025.
In the same vein, it was affirmed that members of the Men’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK will be fully integrated into the main body of the organisation, currently led by Lady Ibeto, stating that they will enjoy full rights to participate in all organisational activities and will be expected to meet the associated financial obligations.
Regarding membership regularisation, NEC said, members will be required to pay the appropriate dues to their respective state member associations. The payment will serve to formalise their membership status, thereby granting them the right to vote and to stand for election within the organisation.
As part of the decisions reached by the National Executive Committee (NEC), Ogene Ndigbo Newspaper gathered that guidelines were issued for the forthcoming election. Additionally, the electoral committee originally constituted by Lady Ibeto was expanded to include representatives from the Men’s Wing: Mazi Obi Okoli, Aloysius Ihezie, Sir Chibuzo Ubochi, and Nze Dr Benson Azuka as members
They said, there is only one legitimate Imeobi within Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Any parallel body claiming the same title elsewhere is considered an aberration, and any decisions made by such a body are deemed null and void.
In another development, it was reiterated that Ohanaeze Ndigbo operates under a single, unified constitution. All members are expected to adhere strictly to its provisions, as it serves as the guiding framework for the organisation’s governance and activities.
In conclusion, the National Executive Committee (NEC) declared that, henceforth, the Men’s Wing and Women’s Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK shall cease to exist. This decision marks a unified structural shift within the organisation.
