A Nigerian politician and human right activist, Omoyele Sowore has urged Igbo politicians to take meaningful action in support of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu rather than relying solely on public statements.
On June 27, 2021, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in Kenya and transferred to Nigeria without following legal procedures. He has been detained for more than four years by the Nigerian Federal government.
Many Nigerians, particularly from the South East region have requested that the federal government should release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu following his incarceration.
In the same vein, Igbo politicians have been criticised for not doing enough to secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
In what seems like a swipe, a Nigerian politician and human right activist, Omoyele Sowore has challenged Igbo politicians to take meaningful efforts to ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released from detention. He made the call, saying, let’s march to Aso Rock Villa.

Omoyele Sowore, a native of Ondo State, stated that he will set aside his differences with certain politicians for this purpose.
In his statement, he challenged South East politicians and people of good conscience from South East to take action now, calling on them to move beyond rhetoric and support Mazi Nnamdi Kalu’s cause. He asked them to join the protest to Aso Rock Villa, “Time for action is now” he said.
He urged conscientious individuals to take immediate action and actively support Mazi Nnamdi Kalu.
He called South East governors, senators, members of House of Representative, State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, priests, South East leaders and Nigerians who believe in Kanu’s freedom to come out for the protest and do more than talking.
He contacted Anambra state governor, Prof Charles Soludo, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Abia state governor, Alex Otti, Peter Obi, and others who express concern to join the march to Aso Rock.
He stated that the demonstration will be peaceful and within the law, aimed at seeking justice for Kanu and addressing the persecution against him.
Sowore said, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has confirmed his full support to join the march.
He said, he has personally reached out to Dr. Otti, and Charles Soludo, through their teams, but have not been successful to have positive response.
He said, Mr Peter Obi was said to be currently travelling, but the message will be delivered to him according to his team.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was reached through his team, Sowore said.
He called all Nigerians to join the march to Aso Rock Villa.
