The 2023 Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has said that there is need for change of governance in Imo State and Nigeria at large, stressing that Nigerians need leaders who do what they preach.
Obi was addressing supporters who gathered in their numbers at the LP Gubernatorial campaign Flagg off of Senator Athan Achonu held at Kanu Nwankwo stadium Owerri on Tuesday, he opined that Labour party is producing leaders who will actualise what they preach to the people.
The LP Presidential candidate went further to debunk news about the lingering crisis of two Gubernatorial candidates emerging in the party, adding that Sen. Athan Achonu is the only recognized and authentic governorship candidate for Nov 11 election in Imo state.
“A committee headed by Gov. Alex Otti s Chairman and Sen. Valentine Ozigbo as Secretary conducted the gubernatorial primaries in Imo, the election produced Sen. Athan Achonu. Nobody has ever said the committee or primaries were compromised”.
I believe in process, the process that Athan Achonu as Governorship candidate of our party is the right process”. Obi stated.
Also, in his speech the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti said he is a witness to the emergence of Sen. Achonu as Gubernatorial candidate of the party, according to him “We have only one Governorship candidate in Imo and his name is Sen. Athan Achonu”.
Otti stated that all stakeholders of the party including the NWC, and elected officeholders are behind the LP Gubernatorial candidate to bring the needed change in Imo, stressing that Abians are currently enjoying good governance and true dividends of democracy.
National Chairman of Labour Party Julius Abure hinted that both PDP and APC failed Imolites, and the only change for a secured future in the State is to vote for the party.
Imo LP Gubernatorial candidate Sen. Athan Achonu in his speech said that his first policy if elected will be to restore constant electricity power, he will conduct free and fair local government election with all political parties participating, promised LG autonomy, adding that all his promise is registered in his manifesto.
Serving National Assembly members, National Working Committee members, including that of the State led by the Chairman Callistus Ihejiagwa were all present at the event.
