The Nigeria, South East region governors have allied to end attacks, killings, and burning of houses by hoodlums in the name of agitation for a republic. 

It was gathered the latest move took place in Enugu state in the affected region last Thursday. 

It should be recalled that for the past three years, the entire South-East has been enveloped with reports of killings, beheadings, rape, and burning of houses and local markets causing an increase in poverty level and slowing down economic activities.

It was suggested and agreed by the governors to have a security and economic summit as part of the steps to address their insecurity challenges. However, a date to have the summit was not announced. 

This among others was the decision taken by the five governors of the Southeast zone.

They include the Chairman of South-East Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma; Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State; Dr. Alex Otti of Abia State; Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and the host Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.

Also, part of the meeting was the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Igalla; the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Maj Gen Aminu Chinade; and commissioners of Police.

In the main time, the chairman of the South-East governors, Uzodimma, revealed that; “The Forum firmly resolved to fight insecurity decisively in the region individually and collectively, in partnership with the federal government and other stakeholders. We commend the security agencies for their cooperation thus far and encourage them not to relent.

“We wish to state categorically that the perpetrators of the insecurity in our region and their sponsors are criminals and should not be seen as legitimate agitators. Therefore, upon arrest, they should be dealt with by the laws of the land.”
